Avenza Maps is a simple yet powerful app for displaying geo-coded, GPS-aware maps on your mobile device. Your mobile device does not require internet connectivity to display your location while you make annotations about your position and track as you travel. It’s an excellent, consumer-level companion for hiking, skiing and backcountry travel provided you have the ability to keep your mobile device charged and operational. Note that we always recommend a paper map and compass as a backup for remote wilderness travel and exploring.
